Synopsis:

The 1950s a best-selling novel and successful film. Shortly after the publication of the book “La Romana” by Alberto Moravia, the film-director Luigi Zampa made a film of the same name in 1954. The leading actress was the splendid Gina Lollobrigida, then just twenty-seven.
Now, thirty-three years later, the same story has been turned into a television film. It is the story of Adriana, a working-class girl living in Rome during the Fascist period, and of her difficult relationship with her mother, with men and with love. The story takes place between 1935 and the end of 1936: the dark year of the war in Ethiopia and economic sanctions, when Italians were asked to donate their gold to the country. In Patroni Griffi’s remake, Gina Lollobrigida returns to the screen as Margherita, the mother of Adriana.
