Synopsis:

Elvira, a country girl, has a special gift with children, as discovered by the parents of little Marco whilst on holiday. Taking up their casual invitation, Elvira turns up on the family’s doorstep in Rome, where she becomes the nanny. But her role as substitute mother ends when his parents separate and Marco is sent to boarding school.
Thus Elvira’s career as nanny begins, moving from family to family and suffering the “loss” of many children.
The years pass and Elvira’s services are increasingly in demand, but she never abandons her first charge, Marco, who is passing through a troubled period. Elvira tries to help him, but it takes the tragic death of his mother to sort him out, and he goes to medical school.
Elvira finally obtains the qualification she needs, but her ambition of becoming a nurse is shattered because she is too old for nursing school. She is at her lowest point when Marco and his girlfriend confide their anguish over an unplanned pregnancy. But what better for Elvira, once again mother to the child of her first “child”.
