Synopsis:

A free adaptation of Tolstoy's novel “Anna Karenina”, “The Great Fire” tells the story of Anna, the young and beautiful wife of an aristocrat and mother of an eight-year-old boy. The couple are the perfect example of the exclusive Italian High society. Anna lives a peaceful existence surrounded by her family and friends until she meets Antonio, an attractive industrialist who ignites in her an uncontrollable passion which eventually brings her to self-destruction. Despite her son, who is in his father’s care. When Anna gives birth to a love-child, a little girl, she pleads for her husband’s forgiveness and returns to the family home. Her promise to her husband does not last for long however, as she cannot live without Antonio and is soon back in his arms again. Her relationship with Antonio becomes more and more embittered as his cruel mother does everything in her power to create obstacles for the couple. Anna is now uncertain of her sentiments but sure of spending the future alone. She become dependant on morphine and contemplates suicide.
