Synopsis:

Renata Fonte, a young mother of two little girls from the Puglia region in Italy, becomes the councilor of a town called Nardò during the 1980s. She embarks on a political battle, and is driven by her determination to protect the uncontaminated coasts of the territory which has been targeted by building developers.
Her life is that of a woman who, with enthusiasm and effort, has to struggle daily to juggle her role as a mother and wife with that of her commitment to her community. Born and raised in Nardò, the town means a lot to Renata and she wants to make sure it is respected.
In the long run, though, this leads to clashes with her husband, Attilio, who demands that she choose between him and her politics.
While waiting for Renata to make her decision, Attilio decides to take time apart from his wife and accepts a job offer in Belgium.
Renata is therefore left alone to take care of her daughters. She also finds herself alone within her own Party: her colleagues insistently ask her to change tack and tone down her political battle. Indeed, Renata’s defense of her territory is inconvenient for the large and powerful economic interests which surround it.
Renata, however, doesn’t give in because the presentation of the town plan which might be able to save the entire Porto Selvaggio area — the uncontaminated territory which she has fought so much for — is only a few days away …
But Renata is killed …
Initially, the investigations lead to a crime of passion: a single woman, separated from her husband, with two young daughters to raise … well, she must have made someone angry …
Of course, steering attention away from the suggestion that the mafia was responsible for the murder and replacing it with a crime of passion is convenient for everybody …
The truth isn’t easy to prove, but thanks to the commitment of a tenacious police inspector named Gerardi, along with the testimonies of some brave town citizens, Renata Fonte will have justice and the ones who carried out her murder, as well as the high-level individuals who ordered it, are finally identified.
