Synopsis:

The past and present are inevitably linked in this moving story of Julia’s life. She is destined to be separated from her childhood love, only to meet him again in her forties. Up to this point she has managed to become a successful writer and a good wife and mother, in spite of an unfaithful husband. But then she meets Ermes Corsini, her love from the past. He is now a celebrated surgeon, married, with a young daughter. Set against the background of everyday family dramas, Julia and Ermes develop a close friendship. Together they confront their mistaken marriages, the accusations and scandals, medical activities, and the worse blow of all, that Julia has cancer.
Julias’s strength comes from her past, and we see a parade of those closest to her. There is Armando Zani, an old friend of her father who suddenly reappears in her life when he is most needed. Her mother, with a mysterious secret, who is courageous and understanding, and her legendary grandfather Ubaldo, a partisan hero with a gypsy’s heart. Through these people and others, Julia rediscovers the joy of the small things in life. With her courage she finds the will to live and love again.
