Synopsis:

The First World War. In the trenches up in the Carso mountains, the destinies of Mario, a humble miner that has become a Sergeant, and the young Red Cross nurse Albertina, a General’s daughter, meet. The love which grows between them must not only deal with the suffering and horrors of war but also with the dangers of the treacherous Captain Avogadro, who wants to marry Albertina at all costs for economic reasons.
Mario and Albertina will have to struggle without losing the humanity which war wipes out from the hearts of all men; but when Mario is reported missing in action after a high-risk mission, their destinies seem to part forever …
