Guido, a genial Milanese industrialist, has made a fortune with his invention of bullet-proof glass. Naturally, he loathed by smash-and¬-grabbers, who do their best to make his life a misery. What is more, his wife, from whom he is separated, demands the majority packet of the firm, and the girl with whom he has fallen in love jilts him. One good piece of luck befalls him in the shape of Tilli, a bag-snatcher who has a counterfeiter brother and a grandfather who is a specialist in smash-and-grab jobs. They are genuine, good-hearted people who despise the violence employed by contem-porary criminals. They mistake Guido for a bag¬-snatcher, take him in and treat him like a king. He succeeds in keeping his real identity a secret and uses his intelligence to dedicate himself to the professional "career" of the girl he loves, organizing amusing and highly ¬original swindles, always finding the way after¬wards to return the loot to the hapless victims. All seems to be going for the good, but Tilli finds out that her lover is in fact her family's enemy, thanks to whom her grand-father had been sentenced to jail. This leads to a crisis, with reconciliation, unexpected twists and.. a surprise ending.
