Synopsis:

The murder of a wealthy nobleman just hours after a highly public argument with his estranged wife Laura casts an incriminating light on the beautiful and elegant widow. Accused of murder, the socialite asks her lawyer friend Federica Felici to defend her, since she knows that Federica will believe in her
innocence. But than, everyone knows that Federica believes practically anyone who can put on a convincing show.
Federica succeeds in tracing the murder to the mistress of Laura’s husband, who then kills herself in despair. The case is closed – but is the murder really solved?
Federica overhears Laura apparently arranging a meeting with a hired killer to pay him the money she owes him. Devastated by her apparent error, Federica confides in the nobleman’s family lawyer, the smart young Carlo Roversi, who promptly seduces the love – starved attorney.
Federica now wants to prove Laura guilty, which becomes easier as more murders are committed – all pointing to Laura. Although Laura claims she is innocent, she refuses to talk in order to protect her daughter.
For it is her daughter who is at heart of a terrible family secret that is being exploited for murderous ends by someone who knows the family very well, a venomous spider who has caught Federica in his web…
