Mediaset Distribution is heading to MIPCOM with one of the broadcaster’s latest ratings successes, My Name Is Carlo (Il Mio Nome è Carlo), the TV movie inspired by the life of Saint Carlo Acutis.
The film delivered a strong performance on Canale 5 on Sunday, September 27, attracting 4.269 million viewers and a 29.6% audience share, leading the evening. It also performed strongly across Mediaset’s key demographics, reaching a 30.1% share in the commercial target and 32.6% among viewers aged 15-34, with peaks of up to 40% share during the broadcast.
Directed by Giacomo Campiotti, the film is produced by Movie Magic International in co-production with RTI. It stars Samuele Carrino as Carlo alongside Lucia Mascino.
My Name Is Carlo retraces the life of Carlo Acutis, the Italian teenager who became internationally known for combining a deeply rooted Catholic faith with a passion for computers, video games and football.
The story follows Carlo from childhood through the final days of his life, portraying an apparently ordinary teenager whose approach to faith, friendship and solidarity gradually changes the people around him.
Moving between the present and memories of his life, the film explores Carlo’s friendships, his attention to people living on the margins of society and his belief that the Internet could be used as a positive tool to connect people and spread messages beyond geographical boundaries.
Among the people whose lives intersect with Carlo’s is Rajesh, a young immigrant welcomed into the Acutis family home, alongside Carlo’s classmates, family and the medical staff who care for him during his illness. Through these relationships, the film focuses both on Carlo’s personal journey and on the impact he left on those around him.
Carlo died at the age of 15 after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukaemia. His story later gained international recognition, particularly among younger generations, drawn to the figure of a teenager whose spirituality existed naturally alongside technology and contemporary youth culture.
Following its strong domestic performance, My Name Is Carlo will now be among the titles presented by Mediaset Distribution at MIPCOM, positioning the film as one of the company’s key Italian fiction offerings for international buyers. Mediaset will meet buyers and clients at the new MFE Stand inside the Palais P4 C18B.
